Attention Competition
My children shouldn't be competing with an inanimate object for my attention.
Lots of exciting things to share with you all this week.
Firstly, I wrote an essay for Business Insider titled:
“I traded my iPhone for a 'dumb phone.' It's made me a better mother and person.”
Here is an excerpt:
I started to notice a pattern. When I picked up my iPhone, my ability to stay calm in the face of my children's incessant demands and bids for attention flew out the window. I immediately had less patience and less attention to give to my children.
Whatever I was doing on my smartphone felt urgently necessary, which is built into the device's design. Truthfully, I was upset with my children for distracting me from my distraction.
I hope you’ll give it a read and share it with all of your friends! Here’s the link.
Secondly, we have published our second episode of the Scroll Sanity podcast! Check out our interview with
from the newsletter . He is also well-known for this dumbphone reviews on YouTube. The episode if available on Substack and everywhere you listen to podcasts!
These phones are designed to keep you engaged and enraged. The fact that they're bot built into our bodies is just a technicality at this point. I read your post, great points!
Congrats on your published essay! I love the subtitle for this post.
